Long Beach Students Honored for Art and Writing Celebrating Global Friendship
Long Beach youth were recently recognized at a Long Beach City Council meeting for their award-winning submissions to the 2025 local SCLB Young Artists and Authors Showcase (YAAS), hosted by Sister Cities of Long Beach (SCLB). This international competition invites students ages 12–18 to share their creative interpretations of global themes through original artwork, poetry, music, and photography.
This year’s theme, “Friendship: The Heartbeat of Global Peace,” inspired students to explore how cross-cultural connection can lead to understanding and harmony. The winning pieces were proudly displayed at Long Beach City Hall, celebrating the talent and global awareness of local youth.
“Our students showed incredible creativity and compassion in their work,” said Susan Redfield, President of SCLB. “They’re powerful voices for peace and understanding.”
Winning submissions have been sent to Sister Cities International for global judging and a chance to be featured in exhibitions across the U.S. and abroad.
The YAAS program continues to shine as a platform for young artists and writers to reflect the values of friendship, cultural exchange, and global citizenship.
